Yol valley

Yol Valley, also known as Yolyn Am or Vulture Valley, is one of the most beautiful and surprising natural attractions in the Gobi Desert. Located within Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park in Omnogovi Province, this deep and narrow gorge is famous for its cool climate and thick ice that can remain on the valley floor even during the hottest summer months.

Carved through the mountains by water and wind over thousands of years, the valley is lined with towering rock walls that create a dramatic and peaceful walking route. Visitors can hike along the canyon floor, cross small streams, and enjoy the refreshing shade that makes Yol Valley a welcome contrast to the surrounding desert heat.

The name “Yol” refers to the lammergeier (bearded vulture), a large bird of prey that can often be seen soaring above the cliffs. The valley is also home to wildlife such as ibex, wild sheep, foxes, and small mammals, making it a popular spot for nature lovers and photographers.

Yol Valley is part of a protected nature area and includes a small museum near the entrance that introduces visitors to the region’s wildlife and environment. For travelers exploring southern Mongolia, Yolyn Am offers a unique blend of scenic beauty, cool mountain air, and desert adventure, making it a must-visit destination in the Gobi region.
