Altai Tavan Bogd National Park

Altai Tavan Bogd National Park is one of Mongolia’s most breathtaking and remote natural destinations, located in the far western corner of the country where Mongolia, Russia, and China meet. The name “Tavan Bogd” means “Five Sacred Peaks,” referring to the towering snow-capped mountains that form the highest and most dramatic part of the Mongolian Altai Range.

The park is home to Khüiten Peak, Mongolia’s highest mountain at 4,374 meters, making it a major destination for climbers and adventure travelers. Massive glaciers, including the Potanin and Alexandra Glaciers, flow down from the peaks, creating a stunning landscape of ice, rivers, alpine meadows, and rugged valleys.

Altai Tavan Bogd is not only rich in natural beauty but also in ancient history and culture. The region contains thousands of petroglyphs and stone monuments, some dating back more than 10,000 years, offering a glimpse into the lives of early nomadic and hunting cultures. The area is also home to Kazakh nomads, famous for their traditional eagle hunting, giving visitors a chance to experience a unique and living cultural tradition.

Travelers can enjoy trekking, horseback riding, glacier hikes, and camping in one of Mongolia’s wildest landscapes. With its combination of towering peaks, ancient rock art, and vibrant local culture, Altai Tavan Bogd National Park is a must-visit destination for those seeking true adventure and unforgettable scenery at the edge of Mongolia.
